Case Studies Show How to Treat Vertigo Effectively

case-studies-show-how-to-treat-vertigo-effectivelyVertigo is a condition that makes you feel as if you are spinning or your environment is rotating despite making no movements. When you turn round and round until you feel dizzy, you cause self-induced vertigo that lasts for a short period.

However, injuries or accidents can bring on real vertigo that can last for hours or days before going away. This is what I intend to treat as a Sacramento based vertigo chiropractor.

Causes of Vertigo

Vertigo is often due to issues in the ear canal, particularly in the vestibular system. It transmits and receives sound as waves through the inner ear canal and on into the eardrum, and this causes the three inner ear bones the malleus, incus, and stapes to vibrate. The sound then travels to the cochlea and to the vestibular nerve, which sends the sound signals to the brain.

The inner ear plays a big role in maintaining the body's balance. It consists of semicircular canals positioned at right angles from each other and lined with very delicate cells that sense changes in the body's position. These canals give instant information about your body's position in the environment. Vertigo can persist if there are any disruptions of this system.

What Is Vertigo?

As mentioned above, vertigo gives the feeling of spinning or moving even when you're just staying still. Simple movements, such as moving your head or body, can aggravate the symptoms. Certain conditions accompany spinning, such as nausea and vomiting, and nystagmus, the twitching or jerking of the eye.

Although it brings discomfort, vertigo is generally harmless except when it appears with weakness on one side of the body. If this is the case for you, then you should consider visiting a doctor to get an evaluation for stroke.

Reasons Why People Develop Vertigo

There are many possible reasons for the occurrence of a vertigo episode. Knowing whether it is peripheral vertigo or central vertigo can help diagnose the cause of its onset. The problem of central vertigo lies in the brain or spinal cord, while the issue of peripheral vertigo is related to the inner ear, usually due to inflammation or displacement of small crystals in the ear.

Vertigo Case Studies That Show Promising Results

Below there are three different studies with amazingly positive results for people suffering from spinning. Read on to find out how you can potentially have similar results.

A woman who had a concussion eliminates her vertigo

A 23-year-old woman was diagnosed with a concussion after a trip and fall. Vertigo was one of her symptoms. She received treatment from an upper cervical chiropractor eventually. After performing radiographs, it was found out that it was not fractures that were causing her symptoms but a misalignment in her upper cervical spine. After 1 to 2 months of treatment, her vertigo disappeared, and her headaches improved, too.

136 patients with Meniere's disease improve their symptoms

A study was conducted involving 139 patients diagnosed with Meniere's disease. Vertigo is one of its main symptoms, along with hearing loss, tinnitus, and ear congestion. Each patient had a history of some sort of trauma before the condition. After getting upper cervical chiropractic adjustments tailored to them individually, 136 out of 139 patients reported improvements on their symptoms, particularly in spinning.

Woman with multiple conditions resolves all her symptoms

A 37-year-old woman had a history of brachioradial pruritus (a neurogenic itch disorder of the upper extremities), neck stiffness, and vertigo. After numerous examinations, it was revealed that she had a misalignment on her upper cervical spine. She underwent upper cervical care for two and a half months, and eventually, all her symptoms, including her vertigo, had resolved.

A Unique, Natural Treatment for Vertigo

These studies provide evidence that vertigo could be due to upper cervical misalignments. For upper cervical chiropractors, this is not news. They know that instead of protecting the brainstem, a misalignment of the C1 and C2 bones of the upper neck can put stress on the brainstem. Because this part of the neck had a wide range of movement and is often used consistently, it is prone to misalignment. Even mild accidents can cause the bones to move out of place. This can cause the brainstem to send faulty messages to the brain regarding the body's position in its environment, which can cause vertigo.

Here at Upper Cervical Chiropractic of Sacramento in California, our treatment is similar to those case studies above. We use a gentle technique that does not involve the popping of the neck or cracking of the spine. Instead, we use precise scientific measurements and adjustments that help guide the neck bones to go back into place naturally.

This lowers the risk of the bones misaligning even more. As we restore the natural alignment of your upper cervical spine, the communication between the brain and the body goes back to normal. Many of our patients report improvements on their symptoms, and for some, a complete resolution of their vertigo. Consult with us to see what we can do to help you obtain Sacramento vertigo relief.
